Yale University School of Medicine - 3 postdoctoral positions

The Department of Psychiatry will offer three postdoctoral training positions at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC) from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. Two positions will be in the Supportive Housing Program and one will be in the Pathways to Independence project. All three positions will consist of community-based clinical work with individuals who are currently or recently homeless and training focused on public sector mental health administration. 1) Supportive Housing Program Focus The position is part of a major Housing and Urban Development-funded Supportive Housing Program (SHP) that serves adults who are homeless with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.

The program is administered by the Community Services Network of CMHC and the Department of Psychiatry, and is a multi-agency transitional supportive housing program that provides mental health and substance abuse treatment, transitional housing and permanent housing, social and vocational rehabilitation, and related community-based housing initiatives. Fellows will receive advanced training and supervision in community-based treatment for co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders and provide individual and group psychotherapy. 2) Pathways to Independence Focus Funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), this position provides an opportunity for advanced training in working with adults experiencing homelessness and behavioral health problems. Pathways to Independence is a collaboration between Yale Department of Psychiatry and Columbus House, Inc., a homelessness services provider in New Haven.

The fellow will review medical /mental health records and conduct assessments for the purpose of applying for mainstream benefits; write summary reports of medical/mental health information and assessment findings; conduct outreach to homeless individuals with disabilities to connect them with clinical services; and provide interim clinical care including psychotherapy. Public Sector Mental Health Administration Curriculum All three fellows will participate in a secondary placement focused on administration in public sector mental health. This experience will include seminars focused on administration, leadership in mental health systems, and healthcare leadership; access to departmental training opportunities including grand rounds; exposure to state and university leaders in the public mental health sector with opportunities for mentoring; and project work which may include: o Design and delivery of mental health-related trainings o Performance of consultation projects o Research o Participation in system strategic planning and performance improvement activities For more information, contact Allison Ponce, Ph.D. at allison.ponce@yale.edu .
