POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP – PSYCHOSOCIAL ONCOLOGY and BMT
The Colorado Blood Cancer Institute (CBCI) (http://bloodcancerinstitute.com/) at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center (PSLMC) (http://www.pslmc.com/) offers a one-year clinical psychology postdoctoral fellowship specializing in adult oncology and bone marrow transplant.
There will be one or two fellowship positions available for the 2012-2013 training year. The transplant program at CBCI is the largest in the Rocky Mountain region, serving patients from Colorado and the surrounding states. Transplanting over 230 patients per year, the program performs allogeneic and autologous transplants for adult patients with hematological disorders and auto-immune disorders. The psychology fellowship at CBCI focuses on development of clinical expertise in working with patients faced with a serious, life-threatening illness and their family members. The environment of the transplant program is one of collaboration within a multidisciplinary team to promote healthy adaptation to illness and optimal functioning.
Fellow responsibilities include assessing transplant candidates, conducting individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy, participating in multidisciplinary team meetings, offering consultation to team members, giving educational presentations, providing supervision to psychology graduate practicum students, and attending weekly didactics. Didactics include a weekly psychosocial oncology seminar series, a bi-monthly postdoctoral seminar series that focuses on issues of career development, attendance at Medical Grand Rounds, and bi-monthly supervision of supervision.
The goals of the training program are to obtain advanced training in the provision of services to patients with life-threatening diseases, understand the professional, legal and ethical issues that arise in a medical setting, and prepare for a position in the field of psychosocial oncology or medical psychology.
The position, beginning August 20, 2012, requires a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology. Stipend $40,000 plus benefits, which includes support for educational opportunities such as attendance at a national conference. Applications are due January 16, 2012.
