Postdoctoral fellows assume a variety of administrative and program development responsibilities, and have the opportunity to supervise graduate trainees in psychology and mental health counseling. A rich didactic seminar program is an important part of the fellowship. Opportunities may also exist for conducting applied research, and presenting at conferences. Specific activities will be determined with the fellow to match his/her career goals. ASPIRE Center for Learning and Development is a privately-owned clinic in Melville, NY with licensed psychologists, social workers, special educators, and speech-language pathologists. ASPIRE is an outpatient assessment, treatment, consultation, and training program that provides state-of-the-art, evidence-based clinical services to individuals from infancy through adulthood. ASPIRE specializes in autism spectrum and other social learning disorders, in addition to working with youth and families facing issues related to anxiety, mood disorders, disruptive behavior disorders, learning disabilities, and cognitive impairments.
Clinical staff at ASPIRE have established an international reputation for their work with females with ASDs, on developing mental health interventions, and offering adult Aspergers diagnostic evaluations. Dr. Nichols, Dr. Tetenbaum, and Ms. Moravcik authored the bestselling book Girls Growing Up on the Autism Spectrum, and Dr. Nichols is a co-author of the family-based group intervention program Facing Your Fears: Group Therapy for Managing Anxiety in Children with High-Functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders/ ASPIRE opened in June 2010, and is excited to provide services to individuals, families, and professionals in a unique, serene setting.
