University of Michigan, 1 postdoctoral fellowship (adult clinical psychology)

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP in Adult Clinical Psychology, University of Michigan. The University of Michigan’s Institute for Human Adjustment is currently accepting applications for a clinical psychology postdoctoral fellowship position, to begin in August or Sept, 2012. This fellowship is rooted within the IHA’s Psychological Clinic, a multidisciplinary, training-focused, adult outpatient center serving clients from both our campus and community. The training prepares fellows for licensure through a one year, full time program, with an option for a second year by mutual consent. Advanced training is offered in many key professional competencies, including 1) assessment and diagnosis (including ADHD/LD testing, if desired), 2) evidence-based psychotherapy interventions including individual, group, and couples therapy, and 3) clinical teaching and supervision. Infused throughout the fellowship are additional experiences in consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration, multicultural competencies, professional development, ethics, and leadership/administrative skills.

Fellows provide direct clinical service with supervision from expert clinicians, participate in a core curriculum of seminars and clinical conferences, develop supervision and teaching skills via work with trainees across multiple disciplines, consult with other professionals including our staff psychiatrist, and have opportunities to engage in community outreach and research collaborations. Several of our faculty have joint appointments in other areas of the University. The Psychological Clinic favors an integrative clinical approach to case conceptualization, incorporating interpersonal, couples/systems, cognitive/behavioral, and biological/psychiatric elements, as well as an overall multicultural perspective infused in all of our work. Evidence-based interventions are emphasized, and are tailored to the situations of individual clients. Particular faculty expertise lies in cognitive-behavioral interventions for anxiety disorders (including ACT), brief dynamic psychotherapy, interpersonally oriented interventions (IPT, CBASP), and Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy.

The University of Michigan provides a rich and exciting scholarly environment with frequent seminars, invited lectures, and opportunities for interaction with faculty across disciplines and departments. Applicants must have completed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from an APA-approved doctoral program in clinical psychology, or a letter from their primary academic advisor indicating that they are expected to complete their Ph.D. by August, 2012 to be considered. They must also have completed an APA-approved internship. The successful applicant will also have excellent written/oral communication skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team setting. The salary is $33,000 plus full benefits. Application deadline Jan. 15, 2012.
