VA White River Junction Medical Center, White River Junction, Vermont, USA - 1 Post Doctoral Fellowship in Primary Care and Mental Health

The VA Medical Center in White River Junction, Vermont, is pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our 2012-2013 post-doctoral fellowship. The fellowship program is in the process of applying for APA accreditation as a generalist program with an emphasis on integration of mental health with Primary Care. We are recruiting for one fellow for our one-year Primary Care and Mental Health Fellowship Training Program. The Primary Care and Mental Health fellow will have experiences in primary and specialty medical care integration, primary mental health care, specialty mental health care, medical ethics, and quality improvement of mental health services in integrated primary and specialty medical care. The postdoctoral fellow works closely with the mental health team in primary care to implement and expand mental health treatment programs in the primary care service. The fellow also works closely with the Oncology Service to provide care to patients with a cancer diagnosis.

The fellow conducts brief, problem-focused assessments and brief psychotherapy in the Primary Mental Health Clinic located in the Primary Care Service. The fellow works one day/week in the general outpatient mental health clinic and carries a caseload of patients seen weekly in either short-term or long-term psychotherapy while supervised from either a cognitive-behavioral or psychodynamic perspective. The fellow serves as part of the medical center’s two biomedical ethics committee with a psychologist-mentor who is a specialist in biomedical ethics and patient safety. Finally, the postdoctoral fellow designs a quality improvement project in one of his/her practice areas by evaluating current effectiveness implementing an empirical approach to redesign the delivery of services.

*Please note that we can only accept applicants who are US citizens, are students in good standing in an APA-accredited clinical or counseling psychology doctoral program, have successfully completed an APA-accredited psychology internship, have completed a doctoral degree, including dissertation defense, from an APA-accredited Clinical or Counseling program prior to the start date of the fellowship. Start Date: September 1, 2012 Stipend: $42,239 annually Benefits: VA fellows are eligible for health insurance (for self, married spouse and legal dependents), life insurance, 10 annual holidays, four hours of sick leave and four hours of annual leave for each two week pay period, authorized absence without charge to leave for activities deemed to be of substantial benefit to VA or activities that advance education and training.
