The Post-Doctoral Residency in Clinical Neuropsychology at Florida Hospital is a 2 year training program designed to meet Houston Conference guidelines for advanced training in Clinical Neuropsychology. The program will provide the resident with advanced training in the principles and practice of neuropsychology through a combination of didactic and educational experiences, extensive direct patient contact, and individual supervision. Residents will also have the opportunity to learn supervisory techniques and participate in supervision of practicum students. At the conclusion of the residency, graduates will be prepared for board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology.
The program is part of the Florida Hospital system and the Disney Children’s Hospital. Florida Hospital is one of the largest health care providers in central Florida, with 8 hospital campuses in the Orlando area. The Pediatric Neuropsychology resident will be part of the Medical Psychology Group, which is rapidly expanding and currently includes 4 full time neuropsychologists, 1 part-time neuropsychologist, 2 post-doctoral residents, and 1 full time clinical health psychologist. The Medical Psychology group provides consultations to physicians in the Neuroscience division of Florida Hospital and the Florida Hospital for Children, including neurology, neurosurgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation, and sports medicine. Consultation and referrals with community physicians also make up a substantial portion of the patient base, and include children with a wide range of neurodevelopmental conditions including autism spectrum disorders, neurological injury and disease, and disorders of learning and attention.
The neuropsychology program is also a key element in the largest sports concussion program in central Florida, having seen over 5,000 student-athletes for baseline testing. The resident will also participate in clinical, research, and educational activities of the comprehensive pediatric epilepsy center at the Walt Disney Pavillion at Florida Hospital for Children that includes state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment programs such as fMRI and MEG.
In addition to clinical experience, residents are encouraged to develop second-year research projects based on their interests and experiences. The Neuropsychology program is rapidly growing both clinical and research programs, and participates in a number of multidisciplinary clinical and research protocols including studies of neurofibromatosis, pediatric brain tumors, and general oncology protocols (adult and pediatric).
Independent research projects are also encouraged.
The Orlando region is a rapidly growing medical and neuroscience community, and offers an excellent opportunity for training and career development. For more information on this opportunity, please contact me by email, and include a CV and names of three references.
