We are pleased to announce the recruitment of a Post-Doctoral Fellow in Rehabilitation Psychology. This two year fellowship will provide supervised training, education, and clinical experience in psychological evaluation and rehabilitation counseling. On an inpatient basis, Fellows will receive training in assessment and rehabilitation counseling to patients with a wide range of medical conditions, including spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, pulmonary disease, and congestive heart failure. Responsibilities will also include rehabilitation counseling for outpatients with neuromuscular disease.
Two seminar series and individual case supervision will be provided by a training faculty of 5 psychologists. The core seminar series encompasses a review of articles and books which represent the theoretical foundations of rehabilitation psychology, and a professional development component which includes discussion of ethics, diversity, professional advocacy, and business aspects of practice. The specialty seminar series encompasses topics organized by type of injury or medical condition. As a teaching hospital HSC also provides the fellow with a wide range of educational opportunities including rehabilitation-related conferences, multidisciplinary in-service presentations, departmental case discussions, and continuing medical education lectures. The training experience is enriched by close collaboration with physiatry, neurology, and psychiatry, as well as interdisciplinary rehabilitation team meetings. Participation in ongoing clinical research projects and / or independent research is expected and supported.
Requirements for the position include a Doctoral Degree in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA), completion of graduate level coursework in health psychology, behavioral medicine and/or rehabilitation psychology, and completion of an APA or CPA accredited internship.
Broad goals of the postdoctoral residency are to provide Fellows with education and training for practice at an independent level as a Rehabilitation Psychologist, to demonstrate professional competence as an applied scientist – practitioner, and to develop the knowledge base, clinical skills, and competencies necessary for board certification in Rehabilitation Psychology.
