Established in collaboration with MIT to advance knowledge and nurture technically grounded leaders and innovators to serve societal needs. This will be accomplished, with a focus on Design, through an integrated multi-disciplinary curriculum and multi-disciplinary research. SUTD aims to become the centre and stronghold of global research and breakthroughs through creative technical research and education anchored in design within a multi-disciplinary approach.
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to engage in two major research programs:
1) a psychology research project that examines the cognitive and social development in monolinguals and bilinguals, including the impact of growing up in a linguistically varied environment on children's cognitive and socio-cognitive development, and to establish the role of bilingualism in enhancing executive functioning on young adults;
2) a multi-disciplinary project that examines the psychological impact of social networks using state-of-the-art technology such as 3D indoor localization and the light-weight natural language processing technology, including the study of how the type of language used, the immediate language environment, and code-switching behaviors will affect a student's academic achievement, motivation, relationship patterns and preferences etc.
Individuals with the following knowledge and skills are encouraged to apply:
- Demonstrated proficiency in programming using software such as R, SPSS, SAS, Stata;
- Experience with statistical methods for analysis of complex data
- Experience with planning research projects including conducting systematic literature reviews, analytical conceptualization, scientific behavioral experiments, and preparing conference presentations, research findings, and manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals;
- Preference will be given to individuals with a strong interest in bilingualism and language acquisition
