The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON, 1 Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Pediatric Health-Clinical Psychology


Position: Temporary Fixed-Term (0.8 - 1.0 FTE). This two-year Pediatric Health-Clinical Research Postdoctoral Fellowship is available beginning September 2013. The second year is dependent on successful completion of year one goals.

Setting: The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), affiliated with the University of Toronto, is Canada's most research-intensive hospital and the largest centre dedicated to improving children's health in the country.

Description: The post-doctoral research fellow will work on a) a grant-funded research project with children who survive brain tumors and their parents, investigating social information processing, its relation to social behavior and adjustment, and the impact of medical, demographic and social contextual factors on social information processing, social behavior and adjustment; and b) a clinical practice addressing the psychological impact of cancer diagnosis on the target child and his/her family, under the supervision of a senior registered psychologist.

The post-doctoral fellow will contact parents of potential participants, explain the purpose of the study and obtain consent; conduct home visits with another research staff to administer standardized psychological measures and questionnaires to children and parents; video tape social interactions; conduct school assessment visits with another research staff; review medical records; organize study procedures; develop/monitor timelines for study; assist with REB process; and assist in other research related activities.

Start Date: September 16, 2013

Current Salary: For 1.0 FTE: $ 45,000.00 CDN for the first year and there is a potential for increase in the second year.

Benefits: Fellows are eligible for the modified SickKids benefits package (health and dental), 2 weeks paid vacation, nine statutory holidays recognized by the hospital, and one week paid professional development leave.

To Apply: Applicants should be graduates of CPA/APA accredited clinical psychology programs and internship-level training in pediatric psychology and clinical psychology.
