The Hampton VAMC, Hampton, Virginia, USA - 2 positions (Women's Mental Health and Trauma)

The Hampton VAMC Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship Program is accepting applications for the 2012-2013 fellowship class. Two positions are available in the area of Women’s Mental Health and Trauma.

Training Model and Program Philosophy: The mission of the Hampton VAMC Postdoctoral Training Program in Women's Mental Health and Trauma is to train psychologists to provide quality mental health care and evidenced-based treatment to women Veterans. The primary goal of the program is for fellows to develop a full range of skills required for independent functioning as a psychologist within the area of women's mental health. Within this goal, we are committed to the scholar-practitioner model of training; fellows are expected to utilize current literature on empirically supported assessment and treatment in planning and delivering services. We also aim to prepare fellows for practice in priority areas of mental health care for women Veterans. We emphasize Evidenced Based/Empirically Supported approaches in treatment of Axis I disorders and provide training in these areas. Fellows also gain experience providing education to Hampton VAMC staff and trainees about the unique mental health needs of women. Clinical rotations provide fellows with an array of clinical experiences while maintaining emphasis on providing treatment to women Veterans. These experiences include rotations in the women's Outpatient Mental Health Clinic, the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (combat and service related), and the Military Sexual Trauma treatment programs.
