Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, San Pedro, CA, USA - 1 clinical postdoctoral position (Rehabilitation Psychology)

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center- San Pedro (located at the port of Los Angeles) is currently accepting applications for a one-year Rehabilitation Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship, beginning in September/October 2011. The position is primarily based on the physical rehabilitation unit. The Rehab centre offers intensive acute rehabilitation and is designed for those who have experienced serious disabling conditions such as stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neurological illnesses or major orthopedic conditions. This is a 20 bed inpatient unit with follow-up outpatient care. The center is both CARF accredited and has earned the Gold Seal of Approval (™) from The Joint Commission for Advanced Primary Stroke Centers.

The fellowship offers training/practice in neurobehavioral assessment, brief individual and supportive psychotherapy, stroke and cognitive education groups, interdisciplinary team work, consultation with staff, and formal personality and neuropsychological assessment. Other duties include crisis intervention, cognitive training (individual, groups, computer games, and Nintendo Wii), and providing secondary supervision to practicum students. Additional opportunities exist to provide services on the Bridges unit (inpatient psychiatric unit) and Sub-Acute Care Center. Research opportunities exist for motivated fellows. Additionally, fellows will be expected to complete one project to be presented to joint Rehabilitation staff by end of year which incorporates their individual interests. In the past, these have included the use of Wii in rehabilitation efforts, Music Group therapy, community group outreach, etc.

Minimum requirements include:

(1) Completion of internship in Psychology which meets APPIC standards (2) Ph.D. or Psy.D. candidates from doctoral programs in Clinical, Counseling, RehabilitationPsychology, or closely related field Hours will be accumulated as a licensed psychological assistant in the State of California. Approximately 80 % of time will be spent in direct care. Position stipend is approximately $30,000 per year and includes medical insurance and paid time off/sick leave. Fellows will be official employees of Little Company of Mary Medical Center and will not be able to charge for services provided in hospital. LCMMC-SP is an equal opportunity employer.
