A new and exciting opportunity for post-doctoral training is available with the Fulton State Hospital sex offender treatment program. Fulton State Hospital is a state-operated forensic inpatient mental health facility for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and histories of aggressive behavior. Approximately one-third of the client population is involved in sex offender treatment programming in varying levels of security across the facility, and the facility additionally houses two wards of clients civilly committed under Missouri’s Sexually Violent Predator statute.
The post-doctoral resident would primarily be assigned to the Sexually Violent Predator component of the sex offender treatment program, though other opportunities for work with seriously mentally ill sex offenders in other areas of the facility would be considered. Primary responsibilities would include co-facilitating sex offender treatment groups using manualized treatment, individual therapy and case management, legal documentation of clinical activities, participation in sex offender risk assessment evaluations, involvement with an interdisciplinary treatment team, and data collection and analysis of treatment outcome data for a three-site pilot project involving manualized treatment. Other research projects may be developed throughout the course of the training period. Supervision required for licensure will be provided.
Fulton State Hospital and its psychology staff also maintain academic affiliations and research ties with the departments of Psychological Sciences, Counseling Psychology, and Psychiatry at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Salary for the position is $35,000 annually, with 12 paid holidays and other standard employee benefits provided. It is expected that the position would begin on September 1, 2011.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, CV, and two letters of recommendation to Jill D. Stinson, PhD, Sex Offender Treatment Coordinator, via email at jill.stinson@dmh.mo.gov. Offer of employment is also contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check, urine drug screen, and new employee orientation training. Any questions can be directed to Dr. Stinson at the email address provided or via phone at (573) 592-2690.
