POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN NEUROPSYCHOLOGY
VA MARYLAND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Program Description: The Veterans Affairs Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) is pleased to announce recruitment for two postdoctoral fellowship positions in Clinical Neuropsychology. The goal of the postdoctoral fellowship is to provide trainees the breadth of knowledge and specific skills to become board-certified clinical neuropsychologists. Distribution of effort will be 60% clinical, 20% didactic, and 20% research/program development. The fellowship consists of two year-long major rotations in geriatrics/dementia and polytrauma/cognitive rehabilitation. Throughout the training experience, fellows will also evaluate patients through the consultation-liaison outpatient neuropsychology clinic, ensuring exposure to a wide range of patient populations. Didactics consist of a monthly neuropsychology seminar, a bi-monthly neuropsychology journal club, Neurology Grand Rounds, and a weekly 2-hour neuropsychology video teleconference with other VA/DoD training sites, comprised of a case presentation and discussion of neuropsychology-specific readings. Fellows will receive individual and group supervision on a weekly basis, and will likely have the opportunity to supervise practicum students. Our staff is active in research and opportunities to become involved in ongoing research are abundant.
Setting: A large VA Medical Center with multiple specialized programs (GRECC, MIRECC, VA Research Centers of Excellence, Polytrauma Support Clinic Team) and a strong relationship with the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
Training Model and Philosophy: Our program adheres to the scientist-practitioner model. The process and the content of clinical training strive to teach the developing neuropsychologist to apply scientific method and knowledge (based on research, VA clinical practice guidelines, and expert consensus) to the assessment and treatment of patients with conditions that affect central nervous system functioning.
Staff: The VAMHCS has 57 psychologists on staff with various areas of practice specialty. The faculty for this fellowship will be drawn primarily from the Neuropsychology Service. Our Service is comprised of 6 neuropsychologists, 2 postdoctoral fellows, 2 predoctoral interns, up to 3 graduate student externs, a psychology technician, and a research assistant.
Start Date: On or about September 1, 2012
Stipend: $45,961.00
Benefits: Health Insurance, 13 days paid vacation, all federal holidays, and up to 13 days of sick leave.

Note: Fellows must be US Citizens and must have completed doctoral training in an APA-approved clinical or counseling psychology program and an APA-approved psychology internship.
