Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Toronto, ON, Canada - 1 clinical postdoctoral fellowship Psychotherapetic Intervention

The Complex Mental Illness (CMI) Program at CAMH, located primarily at 1001 Queen Street West in Toronto, is currently seeking to fill a 1 year post-doctoral clinical fellowship focused on program development and enhancing best-practice in the treatment of complex mental illness, beginning in February 2015.

The CAMH CMI Program has a focus upon the development and evaluation of promising psychotherapeutic practices. This work has to date included the development of a service providing both individual and group-based CBT for psychosis, and the development of interventions addressing social cognition, motivational interviewing and mindfulness-based approaches to address psychosis with concurrent addictions. Recent work within our program has also included several studies investigating the effectiveness of interventions such as cognitive adaptation training, cognitive behavioural social skills training and cognitive remediation therapy with the clients that we serve.

This post-doctoral fellowship will emphasize training in, and implementation of, client-centered best practice in the largest mental health facility in Canada, with a particular emphasis on cognitive behavioural interventions. The focus of this work will be on enhancing therapeutic programming in both inpatient and outpatient settings throughout the CMI Program at CAMH (in both the Schizophrenia and Forensic Divisions), and will include work in development of programming, program evaluation, and training and supervision of allied mental health staff. Participation in research and other scholarly activity will be encouraged, but not mandated. In addition, fellows will have access to didactic opportunities, such as through attendance at weekly grand rounds. Fellows will be provided with quality formal and informal supervision by licensed psychologists.

Qualified candidates will have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and will have completed appropriate course work and internship training in psychotherapeutic interventions for individuals suffering with complex mental illness. Prior training in CBT for psychosis and strong clinical skills are necessary qualifications, and previous experience in program development and evaluation of clinical interventions is a definite asset. Previous experience in providing clinical supervision is not required, but would similarly be an asset. The fellow will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and effective communication as well as complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.

Fellows must be licensed with the College of Psychologists of Ontario or be ready for licensure under supervised practice (http://www.cpo.on.ca).

This position has an annual full-time salary of $50,000. Two weeks of vacation as well as time for professional development will be granted (e.g. examinations, EPPP etc.).
