The Vassar College Counseling Service, Poughkeepsie, NY, USA - 1 10-month, post-doctoral fellowship in college counseling

The Vassar College Counseling Service offers a 10 month, post-doctoral fellowship in college counseling for a doctoral level clinical or counseling psychologist. The fellowship provides an opportunity to gain experience working with a diverse student population at Vassar College, a residential, coeducational liberal arts college in Dutchess County, NY. We seek a fellow who is committed to providing creative, collaborative, multi-cultural clinical service in a diverse college environment. The fellow will receive post-doctoral hours and supervision to meet New York State licensure requirements.

Clinical Experience: The fellow will build knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds and will gain supervised experience in each of the following areas: Brief individual psychotherapy, group therapy, intake assessment, case management, crisis intervention and emergency services, consultation, and inclusive outreach programming. The Vassar College Counseling Service has a strong group therapy program and typically offers 8-10 groups per semester. The fellow will be expected to co-facilitate two therapy groups with staff. Some evening and weekend hours should be expected, especially involving crisis intervention and outreach activities.

Supervision: Both individual and group supervision will be provided by licensed psychologists and social workers who are staff members in the Counseling Service.

Scholarship and Research: Trainees are encouraged to develop their own research projects, write articles and assist in special projects relevant to the field at the Counseling Service. Research may be conducted through the Counseling Service subject to the Director's and IRB approval.

Position: This is a full-time position, available August 15, 2014 through June 15, 2015. The salary is $25,000 plus benefits.

Qualifications: Applications are invited from persons who expect to complete their doctoral degree in counseling or clinical psychology prior to the fellowship start date. A doctorate from an APA-approved psychology program and an APA-approved pre-doctoral internship required. The successful applicant should demonstrate a professional commitment and interest in multi-culturalism and social justice, college counseling center work, and student development.
