Albany Medical College/Albany Medical Center, Albany, New York, USA - Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology (Eating Disorder Specialty Focus)

The Albany Medical College (Albany Medical Center), Department of Psychiatry invites applications for a full-time, one year, Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology. The fellowship is designed to prepare Fellows to function as capable professional psychologists assuming multiple roles within an academic psychiatry department or other practice based academic institution. The position offers supervised experience in a number of clinical, research, academic, teaching, and supervisory roles. Fellows are highly encouraged to develop and conduct projects of personal interest and/or value for the department and are also actively involved in ongoing departmental training and research initiatives.

This position will involve the fellow spending 50% of their time working with the Division of Clinical Nutrition providing psychotherapy and case management services to patients admitted to Albany Medical Center with severe eating disorders. They will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team to provide care and facilitate discharge for these patients. They will also work with Department of Psychiatry faculty to facilitate an eating disorder group for families.

The remaining 50% of the fellow’s time will involve a range of activities, including: research, general outpatient psychotherapy, program development, consultation, medical student and psychiatry resident education (teaching). Research endeavors typically include opportunities for authorship and conference presentations. Fellows are provided ample clinical hours and supervision leading to competency for independent practice and preparation for licensure.

Fellows are expected to possess the capacity for collaboration as well as independent self-directed academic work. We desire Fellows with excellent interpersonal skills and strong clinical, research, and writing abilities. We welcome applications from Clinical and Counseling Psychology students (Ph.D. and Psy.D.).

The Fellowship is a full time, year-long program with a salary of $40,000, with health benefits partially covered by the institution with a minimal cost to fellows, and scheduled vacation. The program is currently accepting applications for one (1) position as described above. However, the trainee will work within a cohort of five post-doctoral fellows for the training year. The training year begins September 1st and ends August 31st (start date may be flexible). The program is coordinated by the Director of Training, Robert Hubbell, Psy.D., and the Department Chair, Victoria Balkoski, M.D.
