RiverRidge Neurorehabilitation Center, is seeking qualified candidates for 2013-2015 Neuropsychological Fellowship. Fellows will receive a variety of in-depth training experiences in the areas of assessment, treatment, consultation, training and professional presentations. In addition, the fellow will participate in nationally recognized curriculum in order to qualify for certification as a Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS)
Assessment experiences will include screening and comprehensive evaluations for persons with acquired brain injury (e.g. TBI, CVA, anoxia, neoplasm, seizure disorders) or progressive conditions (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s) through both an inpatient and outpatient setting.
Fellows will participate as members of both an interdisciplinary inpatient program and a transdisciplinary outpatient program. Treatment modalities include brief counseling, family support and education, cognitive remediation and behavioral management.
Neuropsychology provides consultative services at RiverRidge and throughout 10 other Genesis Centers in Maine. Referrals range from cognitive screening examinations to behavioral management and staff training.
Within the Genesis system, Neuropsychology is the recognized expert in the cognitive and behavioral rehabilitation for individuals with acquired brain injury. As such, we are often called upon to provide staff trainings on brain/behavior relationships, the role of the therapeutic relationship in rehabilitation and strategies for assisting distressed family members. We also attend and present at local and regional conferences.
Fellows will work closely with the Director of Brain Injury Services and a team of experienced rehabilitation professionals. The fellow will be immersed in the various roles for which Neuropsychology is utilized including facility leadership, program development, consultation, training, and treating clinician.
RiverRidge is part of Genesis Healthcare and is the only CARF-accredited skilled nursing facility on the East Coast specializing in Brain Injury Rehabilitation. RiverRidge holds three CARF accreditations for programs in Inpatient Brain Injury Rehabilitation, Outpatient Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Residential Care for survivors of Acquired Brain Injury. Neuropsychological services support all three programs.
