Positions: Two one-year full-time positions in Clinical Psychology in the emphasis areas of:
  • Assessment and Treatment of Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Evidenced Based Practice (EBP) and Recovery Programming for Veterans with Severe Mental Illness (SMI). The postdoctoral training program is designed to be consistent with the American Psychological Association’s guidelines for six general competency areas in the traditional practice of Clinical Psychology which include:

  • Consultation, Program Evaluation, Supervision, and/or Teaching
  • Strategies of Scholarly Inquiry

  • Professional Conduct; Ethics and Law; and Other Standards for Providers of Psychological Services
  • Issues of Cultural and Individual Diversity that are Relevant to All of the Above TBI / PTSD
Position will also include: Training in Neuropsychological Assessment, use of CAPS in PTSD assessment, and empirically supported treatment for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) for the TBI/PTSD position; Training in adapting existing EBTs for persons with TBI and performing outcome-evaluation research to guide practice. EBP / SMI Position will also include: Training in empirically based clinical service provision, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Behavioral Activation for Depression and Social Skills Training; Training in recovery-based program development, and outcome-evaluation research skills; Experience with program administration, and modeling of advocacy skills in promoting recovery-programming throughout the VA system and other public service venues.

Training Setting and Community: The Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans' Hospital (HSTMVH is a large, modern, teaching hospital with strong affiliations with the University of Missouri. It is located in Columbia, Missouri, (population 100,000), a small mid-western town with all the benefits of having the state's flagship university, in addition to two other colleges within the city limits. Located halfway between St. Louis and Kansas City, Columbia boasts an extensive parks and hiking/biking trail systems. Training Model  and Philosophy: Our training model is scientist-practitioner. It is the philosophy of our program that clinical research is as vital to the psychological care of our patients as the therapy we provide. Clinical outcome research is essential to Evidenced Based Practice (EBP). As clinicians, we must adapt treatments to fit the needs of our patients and we must assess outcomes to determine whether the changes we make are effective. It is through this reciprocal process of clinical observation driving hypotheses for more effective treatments, and clinical outcome research providing data regarding treatment efficacy that moves psychological treatment, patient care, and the field as an applied science, forward.

Faculty interests: • Conducting neuropsychological evaluations on referred Veterans and developing integrated rehabilitation-oriented recommendations • Conducting PTSD evaluations using the "gold-standard" CAPS assessment as well as evaluative testing • Delivering individual and group EBT therapies • Clinical outcomes research on Psychosocial Recovery & Rehabilitation Programming • Clinical outcomes research on treatments for Veterans with PTSD with/ without co-morbid mtbi • Developing collaborative research with University of Missouri Multicultural Center for Research, Training and Consultation

The Research Group on children’s psychosocial maladjustment (GRIP), Montreal, Quebec, Canada - 2 postdoctoral research fellowships

The Research Group on children’s psychosocial maladjustment (GRIP) invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships beginning anytime before September 2012 which could be funded for up to 6 years. The successful candidates will work with a multidisciplinary team of senior investigators on a large randomised trial of personality-targeted interventions.

This trial is funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) with Patricia Conrod as the Principle Investigator and Robert Pihl, Jean Seguin, Jordan Peterson and Benoit Masse as co-investigators. This trial will investigate the preventative effects of a selective, school-based intervention programme on 5-year addiction outcomes (primary) and mental health and cognitive outcomes (secondary). This Montreal-based, 5-year trial will also allow for the study of relationships between adolescent cognitive development, substance use and risk for future addiction in a longitudinal sample of 5000 high school students.

We hope to recruit 2 bright, motivated researchers to assist with this trial. All applicants should have one of the following 2 qualification profiles. 1. Clinical Post Doctoral Researcher: A full-time clinical post-doctoral researcher with a PhD in Clinical Psychology or related disciplines with supervised practice in delivering cognitive behavioural or motivational interventions with young people. This staff member will be responsible for all clinical aspects of this trial, including adaptation of an evidence-based intervention for Montreal youth, training and supervision of educational professionals in the delivery of the programme, evaluation of treatment fidelity/integrity, and knowledge transfer and dissemination (training workshops and published therapy manuals).

This is a 2-year post with possibility of renewal for up to six years. Bilingual (French and English) applicants will be prioritised for this post. 2. Full-time postdoctoral research fellow: This applicant should hold a PhD in Psychology, biomedical sciences or related fields and would not need clinical training. This candidate must have strong quantitative skills, including experience with either complex structural equation modeling, modeling of longitudinal data and/or neuroimaging data analysis. Community Head Injury Resource Services of Toronto (CHIRS) is the leading provider of community-based supports for people living with the effects of acquired brain injury in Ontario. CHIRS is offering a two year clinical fellowship designed to meet the requirements of supervision for ABPP/ABCN Diplomate candidacy. The main focus of the fellowship is the development of expertise in assessment and treatment of individuals living with moderate to severe brain injury. In addition to completing neuropsychological assessments, the fellow provides clinical leadership in residential, outreach and vocational settings. The Minnesota Center for Twin and Family Research (MCTFR) in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota has an opening for one or more post-doctoral research associates. We seek someone interested in the study of the development of substance abuse and related psychopathology in our genetically informed samples of twin and adoptive children and their parents prospectively studied from preadolescence through young adulthood.

The successful candidate will be part of an interdisciplinary team of researchers (including neuroscientists, geneticists, psychopathologists, developmental psychologists, and statisticians) investigating the development of substance abuse and related common mental disorders (e.g., major depression, antisocial personality disorder). The MCTFR dataset is unique in terms of the breadth of its assessment (e.g., a rich set of clinical, personality, and endophenotypic measures), developmental informativeness (participants have been assessed every 3-4 years, spanning ages 11 through 29), comprehensive measurement of environmental risk (e.g., prenatal, familial, peer group, neighborhood), inclusion of biological measures (e.g., dense array EEG/ERP, autonomic responsivity, neuropsychological function) and extensive coverage of genetic markers (660K SNPs as part of GWAS) in a prospectively studied sample of twin and adoptive adolescent sibling pairs and their parents (2500 families).

The MCTFR affords excellent opportunities for the person filling this position to develop an independent program of research in addition to working with these data. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in psychology, statistics, epidemiology, neuroscience, genetics or related fields. Experience with the analysis of complex data sets using multivariate and longitudinal statistical methods is highly desirable. The Center for Autism Research, Philadelphia, PA, USA - 1 postdoctoral fellowship in Autism



The Center for Autism Research (CAR) was established by CHOP and the University of Pennsylvania to coordinate, sponsor, and support state-of-the-art research into understanding the causes and treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs).

Studies focus on diagnosis, development, neuropsychology, genetics, and neuroimaging of individuals with ASD. CAR has a large training program spanning both research and clinical mentorship. The clinical postdoctoral fellowships offer specialty experience in ASDs. Diagnostic evaluations are at the heart of the fellowship, and opportunities to master assessment of individuals age 6 months through adults are available. Fellows also participate in intervention studies, parent trainings, and community presentations.

Participation in research development, implementation, and publication is based on the fellow’s level of experience. Two fellowship tracks are available (two-year fellowships) for 2012-14: Clinical Autism/LEND Fellowship focuses on assessment and diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders. Assessments occur in our research clinic, the interdisciplinary Regional Autism Center clinic associated with CHOP, and CHOP’s outpatient mental health clinic. Clinical Autism Fellowship with a Focus in Pediatric Neuropsychology. Fellows participate in the same activities as the Clinical Autism Fellowship (but are not part of the LEND program), and also receive general training in pediatric neuropsychology services for children and adolescents with developmental and acquired neurological disorders (approximately two cases per month, 20% time). This fellowship is designed to meet INS-Division 40 and Houston Conference guidelines for training in neuropsychology while maintaining a primary focus on autism. Clinical postdoctoral fellowships are two-year positions. All Post-Doctoral Applicants must have completed an APA-accredited doctoral program and an APA-accredited internship. Significant experience in cognitive testing of children with a wide range of behavioral presentations is required. The Grant and Glueck Studies at Harvard Medical School have followed two socioeconomically diverse groups of men over the last 70 years to identify predictors of healthy aging.

We are particularly interested in studying what psychosocial variables and biological processes from earlier in life predict health and well-being in late life (80’s and 90’s), what aspects of childhood and adult experience predict the quality of intimate relationships in late life, and how late life marriage is linked with health and well-being. The project collects bi-annual questionnaire data relating to physical health, activity, and mental health, and we have just finished visiting participants and their wives in their homes, performing neuropsychological tests, drawing blood for DNA, and conducting neuroimaging studies of aging. This position offers a unique opportunity to access 8 decades of available data to conduct independent research in any of the above areas related to adult development across the lifespan. The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, USA - 1 pediatric rehabilitation psychology fellowship

The University of Michigan, Division of Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology (RPN), Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is accepting applications for a clinical Postdoctoral Fellowship with a focus of training on pediatric rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology. The fellowship conforms to APA Division 22 guidelines and includes didactics in core topics in neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology.

Core fellowship activities include inpatient rehabilitation psychology services on a pediatric rehabilitation service, as well as pediatric outpatient neuropsychology clinics. In addition to these core experiences, training experiences are arranged in specialty outpatient multidisciplinary clinics (craniofacial, fetal alcohol, brain injury day treatment, other). Depending upon funding and prior experience, fellows may participate in protected mentored research activities. Program graduates typically pursue careers in some aspect of rehabilitation psychology/neuropsychology.
