Fullerton Neuropsychological Services is offering two paid postdoctoral positions starting in September 2012. These one-year positions offer training in Rehabilitation Psychology, Behavioral Health &Wellness, and Neuropsychology. Post docs will be provided the opportunity to work in an inpatient/outpatient hospital setting and private practice. Comprehensive hospital based services offer acute inpatient, outpatient and community re-entry programs for brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury and general medical populations.
Duties include, but are not limited to, neuropsychological and psychological assessment, psychotherapy, and consultation as part of a multidisciplinary team. Postdoctoral fellows may also be involved in limited research projects, program development and education.
Qualifications: Applicants must have attended an APA accredited psychology program and have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in clinical psychology, with completion of both predoctoral internship and dissertation by commencement of start date. Applicants must also have completed course work in neuropsychological assessment or clinical training in neuropsychology.

The American Psychoanalytic Association Fellowship program seeks to encourage interest and involvement in psychoanalysis among early-career psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and academics. Little Company of Mary Hospital at San Pedro is offering a post- doctoral fellowship training experience in Rehabilitation Psychology to begin September 2012 and end August 31, 2013. Postdoctoral position is based on the physical rehabilitation unit at this community based, CARF accredited hospital located at the port of Los Angeles. This is a twenty bed inpatient unit, with follow up outpatient care.
Typical duties will include neurobehavioral assessment, brief individual psychotherapy, coordination of community stroke support group, as well as in house cognitive education groups, consultation with Rehabilitation staff, formal personality and neuropsychological assessments. Ability to liaison with hospital based psychiatric, medical, and chemical dependency inpatient units is also available. Settings
Harborview Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center treat patients from the surrounding urban community as well as a 5-state region. Fellows work with a diverse array of patients from many cultural, socioeconomic, religious, and national backgrounds. The most common types of patients served include those with traumatic brain injuries, cerebral vascular accidents, spinal cord injuries, severe burn injuries, chronic disease such as multiple sclerosis, physical traumas such as those occurring after motor vehicle accidents, and acute and chronic pain. In addition, one of the fellowships focuses on medically underserved outpatient populations (HIV/AIDS, minority children, burns, and acquired disabilities).
Fellows provide psychological care as part of a multidisciplinary team in the following settings: Inpatient Rehabilitation Units, Outpatient Rehabilitation Clinics, Rehabilitation Psychology Consultation and Liaison Service, Inpatient Burn Unit, Outpatient Burn Clinic, Outpatient Pediatric Clinic and an HIV/AIDS Outpatient Clinic. The Pediatric Neuropsychology unit of the Division of Behavioral Neuroscience provides a diagnostic service for children with complex learning and behavioral disorders, both neurological and neurodevelopmental in etiology. Children are referred by schools, clinics, practitioners in the community, and medical staff at this hospital. This unit serves the community, state, five-state area, and for specific disease entities, the entire country. The clinical orientation of the faculty is developmental. Our approach to neuropsychology is to integrate knowledge from neuropsychological testing with data from neurological, imaging, neurophysiological, and laboratory studies to quantity functional deficits in the context of the central nervous system using a developmental framework.
Clinical Service: Neuropsychological diagnostic services are provided for children with neurodevelopmental disorders such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, learning disabilities, developmental aphasia, autism, and intellectual disability, and for neurological disorders such as epilepsy, Tourette Syndrome and other movement disorders, head trauma, sequelae of infectious diseases such as meningitis and encephalitis, neurotoxic conditions, congenital disorders such as agenesis of the corpus callosum and hydrocephalus, degenerative, metabolic, and genetic disorders, CNS effects of cancer and its treatment, and migraine and tension headaches. Opportunities exist for fellows to participate in specialty clinics, including: craniofacial clinic, neonatal follow-up clinic, oncology long-term follow-up clinic, and selected others. Psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety, and conduct disturbances especially in children with possible attentional and learning difficulties, and somatoform disorders are also commonly seen. For a diagnostic evaluation, cases are scheduled for two half day visits in the Pediatric Neuropsychology clinic. A staffing is done between the two visits to discuss initial data and to plan for the second visit. Many of the cases are also seen by one of the faculty pediatric neurologists.
Our neuropsychology service is an integral member of our multidisciplinary autism center. Interested fellows can develop skills in assessing autism spectrum disorders through training in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule and participation in weekly case conferences with a developmental/behavioral pediatrician, neuropsychologist, and behavioral psychologist.
Goals of the Fellowship: Our mission is to train pediatric neuropsychologists both as practitioners and as scientists. Although the experience is clinically based, it is quite research and academically oriented. This is an expanding field with a rapidly growing knowledge base that is the direct result of advances in technology in imaging, measurement of behavior and cognition, neurophysiology, and genetics. However, the field of pediatric neuropsychology is especially difficult because children are dynamic developing organisms often with different disorders than adults, different effects of abnormal conditions, and with both an increased vulnerability and an increased capacity to recover from disease conditions. Training scientist-practitioners in this field is especially difficult for these reasons, but rewarding in the long term benefits accrued to children from the scientific information and clinical interventions provided. Requirements: Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. from
an APA-approved program, preferably in clinical or school psychology, and to
have completed an APA-approved internship. It is expected that the applicant
will have internship level training in child and neuropsychological assessment. Beginning in academic year 2012-2013, the
Fellow salary will be $38,000 for the first year and $40,000 for the second
year. Benefits include health

The postdoctoral fellowships offered through the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Psychology Division provide opportunities for the fellows to receive specialized training in an area or areas of expertise of psychologists on faculty in the Division of Psychology. Such areas may include, but are not limited to, psycho-oncology, neurorehabilitation psychology, psychology of psychiatric patients, or general health psychology. The postdoctoral fellowships offered are one year, full time training experiences.

The postdoctoral fellowships are designed also to meet licensure requirements for postdoctoral supervision as specified in the statutes for licensure through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board in the State of Kansas. These requirements include 1800 hours of supervised experience by a Kansas Licensed Psychologist in a setting involving the provision of clinical psychological services which provides the fellow with contact with other disciplines, the opportunity to utilize a variety of theories, and the opportunity to work with a broad range of populations and techniques. At least 900 hours are spent providing clinical services, and individual supervision is provided at least one hour per 20 hours of clinical service provision. The detailed requirements for post doctoral training for Kansas licensure are set forth in the statutes governing the practice of psychology in Kansas, which may be found on the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board website http://www.ksbsrb.org/psychologists.htm#registration , particularly statue 102-1-5a. While requirements should generally meet criteria for licensure in other states, we will work with incumbents who have any special requirements.
Postdoctoral fellowships in the Division are specialized and vary in their specific focuses based upon the expertise of given faculty or others at KU Medical Center who are sponsoring the fellowship. Prerequistes for all post-doctoral fellows include a degree or completion of all requirements for a Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in clinical or counseling psychology and completion of a one year full time (or two year part-time) internship in clinical or counseling psychology at the doctoral level. The postdoctoral fellowships are designed also to meet licensure requirements for postdoctoral supervision as specified in the statutes for licensure through the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board in the State of Kansas. These requirements include 1800 hours of supervised experience by a Kansas Licensed Psychologist in a setting involving the provision of clinical psychological services which provides the fellow with contact with other disciplines, the opportunity to utilize a variety of theories, and the opportunity to work with a broad range of populations and techniques. At least 900 hours are spent providing clinical services, and individual supervision is provided at least one hour per 20 hours of clinical service provision. The detailed requirements for post doctoral training for Kansas licensure are set forth in the statutes governing the practice of psychology in Kansas, which may be found on the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board website http://www.ksbsrb.org/psychologists.htm#registration , particularly statue 102-1-5a. While requirements should generally meet criteria for licensure in other states, we will work with incumbents who have any special requirements.
Postdoctoral fellowships in the Division are specialized and vary in their specific focuses based upon the expertise of given faculty or others at KU Medical Center who are sponsoring the fellowship. Position Description
The Roosevelt University Counseling Center fellowship is for a psychology doctoral graduate who is seeking advanced training in university or college counseling center work. The position is full time (40 hours/week) for one calendar year. The start date is in early August. The clinical duties include: providing individual (both short-term and long-term), couples and group counseling; initial intake interviews; crisis intervention; case management; consultation and outreach with students, faculty, staff and parents; possible supervision of practicum students; and other duties as assigned. The Fellow will spend at least 60% of her or his time providing clinical services.
In addition, the Fellow will provide other non-clinical services such as outreach programming and consultation to the Roosevelt University student, staff, and faculty community on a regular basis. Outreach and consultation are a critical educational and networking component of The Counseling Center program and postdoctoral experience.
The responsibilities vary widely throughout the year, but may include presentations to the Roosevelt community, writing articles for the Illuminations Newsletter, and assisting with outreach events as well as planning and implementing your own outreach events. The Fellowship is designed to provide both generalist training and specialized experience working with a diverse population of university students regarding a range of mental health and developmental concerns. The Fellow will participate in a clinical training seminar, staff meetings, and intake disposition team meetings.
In addition, the Fellow will have the opportunity to pick one of the following three concentration tracks: 1) The Administrative Track is intended for postdoctoral fellows who are interested in administrative/leadership roles in university counseling centers, other mental health agencies, and/or professional organizations ; 2) The Training Track is intended to provide the postdoctoral fellow with an opportunity to learn the mechanics of a training director role within a pre-doctoral externship training program; and 3) The Outreach Track will allow the postdoctoral fellow to have ample experience with coordinating, consulting, and implementing outreach programming. Training Provisions The Fellow will receive two hours of individual supervision from a primary supervisor. S/he may also receive additional supervision on special projects, outreach or group therapy as needed. All supervisors are licensed clinical psychologists in the state of Illinois. Roosevelt University Counseling Center The current staff consists of four full-time psychologists, one part-time psychologist, three externs, one postdoctoral fellow, three peer advocates, and two support staff. The clinical staff embrace an integrative theoretical orientation that relies upon psychodynamic/relational, multicultural, feminist, developmental, systemic and cognitive behavioral perspectives. RUCC is committed to social justice and multicultural competence and encourages continuing professional development in this area. RUCC utilizes a time-limited therapy model (12 sessions) but longer-term cases are permitted.
We offer process group therapy and a psychoeducational group for stress management that have no session limits. RUCC staff believes that supervision and mentoring are essential in helping Fellows advance in professional confidence, competence, and autonomy. Our goal is to support and prepare new professionals to practice psychology with skill, creativity, and flexibility in a complex and ever-changing world.
